opBNB is BNB Chain's official Layer 2 (L2) scaling solution, built on Optimism's OP Stack. It dramatically reduces transaction costs compared to BSC mainnet, making it ideal for high-frequency applications, games, micropayments, and DeFi protocols.
How Low Are opBNB Fees?
opBNB fees are exceptionally low — typically around $0.005 per transaction, and in some cases as little as $0.0001. This is significantly cheaper than BSC mainnet (already under $0.03) and orders of magnitude cheaper than Ethereum mainnet. For comparison, traditional credit card payment processing costs 1–3% per transaction.
How opBNB Fees Work
opBNB transactions have two cost components:
- L2 Execution Fee: The cost to execute your transaction on opBNB's Layer 2 network — extremely low due to batch processing
- L1 Data Fee: The cost to record your transaction data on BSC mainnet (L1). This depends on the data size and L1 gas price at submission time
The combined total is still far below direct BSC transactions for most use cases.
opBNB Block Capacity and Speed
opBNB has a block gas limit of 100M per block with 1-second block times. This allows the network to process significantly more transactions per second than BSC mainnet, further distributing costs and enabling near-instant finality for most transfers.
When to Use opBNB vs. BSC Mainnet
Choose opBNB when you need very high transaction volume, are building a gaming or DeFi application, or require sub-cent transaction costs. Stick to BSC mainnet for transactions requiring maximum composability with the full DeFi ecosystem, or when interacting with protocols not yet deployed on opBNB.
